FRAM world class filters trusted since 1934

FRAM History

FRAM is a leading global filtration brand, available across 174 countries, and is the number one selling brand in North America; currently the largest automotive aftermarket in the world.

Founded in 1932, in a laboratory in Providence, Rhode Island, chemists Frederick Franklin and T. Edward Aldham invented an easily replaceable oil filtering element, and by 1934, production was, on average, at 10 filters per working day. The FRAM name is coined from the first two letters of Franklin and the last two letters of Aldham.

Over 89 years of experience, research and development has kept FRAM at the leading edge of filter technology. Developing, testing and manufacturing filters to meet or exceed Original Equipment Manufacturer’s filtration specifications, FRAM Factories have supplied 9 of the top 10 Original Equipment vehicle brands in oil, air, fuel and cabin filtration.

With a history across the United States, FRAM has long been synonymous with a renowned racing heritage, most notably within the NASCAR scene.

In 2017, after a long-standing, established business in New Zealand, Filpro Automotive Australia re-introduced FRAM Filters to the Australian automotive aftermarket industry.

With manufacturing facilities worldwide, FRAM products are designed, engineered and manufactured in-house, with multimillion-dollar test rigs; giving them the capabilities to test OEM-ISO/SAE/JIC specifications.
