Subaru Switch-up

This bulletin applies to 2008 and later Subaru Impreza vehicles equipped with a manual transmission.

The concern may involve a Start Assist (HAS) warning light and DTC C0076 stored.

When the HAS warning lamp is illuminated, the hill start assist system is inoperative. In addition to DTC C0076, detail codes 2610H as well as 2620H may be stored. These codes refer to the operation of the clutch switches.

There are two switches operated by the clutch pedal. One sends an on-off signal to the cruise control system and the other an on-off signal for the starter inhibit (neutral start switch).

For detail code 2610H, check the clutch pedal switch signal using an appropriate scan tool following the procedure in the applicable service manual. For detail code 2610H, check the clutch pedal switch clearance following the procedures in the service manual.

Once it has been determined that the clearance adjustments are both within specification and switch signal functions are operating normally, the most likely cause for the intermittent HAS warning lamp is the vehicle operator resting their left foot on the clutch pedal with enough pressure to activate the switches. Even the slightest amount of pressure on the clutch pedal can result in false input signals as well as possible premature clutch failure.
