NARVA was established in Melbourne in 1953 by local company Brown and Watson International Pty Ltd and has since grown to become a household name in the field of automotive lighting and electrical products. The brand name is a composition from the words: Nitrogen, Argon and Vacuum, summarising the materials and processes required for developing a quality globe. Just recently, NARVA has become an important part of GUD Holding’s automotive brand portfolio.
NARVA operates a state-of-the-art design, testing and warehouse facility in Knoxfield, Melbourne, ensuring that its products are ready to perform in demanding Australian applications and conditions.
The vast NARVA range includes a wide selection of lighting – from driving lights to emergency, work and truck and trailer lighting – through to performance globes, terminals, switches, fuses and much more.
Importantly for mechanics and technicians, NARVA has an inspection light range that is second to none. The workshop range is engineered for demanding workshop environments, comes in a selection of sizes and output levels all featuring the latest L.E.D technology.
While these lights are suitable for use across various trade applications, technicians will appreciate the fit-for-task nature of the ‘Probe II’ L.E.D Inspection Lamp. Featuring an ultra slim housing, this light allows the user to inspect even the most crowded engine bay or vehicle undercarriage, its light reaching areas other lamps simply can’t.
The latest addition to NARVA’s work lamp range is the ‘SeeEzy’ L.E.D Rechargeable under bonnet Lamp. Featuring three powerful 55W ‘COB’ L.E.Ds which produce a generous 6000K of bright white light, the L.E.D output can be adjusted to provide technicians with the optimal light and position, while also allowing them to keep both hands free to work.
As an innovator in its field, NARVA regularly updates its product ranges and brings many new products to market each year. Currently the range consists of well over 5,000 individual parts – it’s the most comprehensive product line-up of its kind in Australia.
It’s an overall product range that’s an ideal fit for the mechanic.com.au community, and the brand is proud to be involved with the website and assisting members with lighting and electrical-related projects.
Among our staff are in-house engineers and product support staff that are extremely knowledgeable in their field and extensively involved in the development of NARVA products. NARVA’s 17,000 m² facility includes a testing laboratory that incorporates an optical lighting centre, a rain chamber, submersion tank, a dust ingress tester and equipment that tests the lighting products under cycles of extreme temperatures, ranging from -60° Celsius to 100° Celsius.
To further test its products in real world conditions, NARVA is a regular participant in off-road motor competitions and sponsors several teams competing in gruelling events such as the Outback Challenge and various winching challenges.
The company has also partnered with former Australian GP motorcycle champ and outback tour operator, Daryl Beattie. Daryl’s support truck exclusively runs NARVA equipment and the company receives first-hand information on how its products perform on Daryl’s regular trips across the Canning Stock Route, Cape York, the Simpson Desert and to other remote and demanding locations. Additional testing is done via NARVA’s fully equipped Ford Rangers, which see regular action across Australia.
Always pushing the boundaries of new technologies, NARVA’s recently-released Ultima 215 L.E.D Driving Lamps have set new benchmarks for this product category. They are not only equipped with 33 x 5W (165W) XP-G2 Cree L.E.Ds that develop a pure white output, they also feature highly polished, aluminium, metalised reflectors which feature precisely scalloped parabolas for superior control and performance.
The lamps feature die cast aluminium housing, ‘Active Thermal Management System’ allowing the lights to run harder for longer, while also incorporating a nitro breather vent and integrated DT connector, and are fully sealed against water and dust ingress to IP66 and IP67. These features provide the lights with an impressive operating range of between -40°C to 65°C.
It’s these features and performance that reinforce that NARVA is one of the leaders in its field.
The NARVA range of products is available to the general public throughout Australia and New Zealand via leading automotive, transportation, four wheel drive and marine outlets. NARVA also supplies directly to OEM companies including Kenworth, Mack, HSV, Honda and Jayco.
Along with NARVA, Brown and Watson also oversees other leading brands including Projecta, Big Red and MaxLite.
