Whether your customer is looking to hit the open road in a vehicle with performance upgrades, or if you are dealing with an amateur drift, circuit, rally or drag racing driver, having a full understanding of each customer’s situation plays a key role. Consider the following questions to ensure they get the right clutch for the application.
What vehicle does the customer have? You need to know manufacturer’s exact model, model year, engine size and code, upgrades or alterations. How much torque does the vehicle make? If the torque output is unknown, investigate on vehicle modifications. Knowing the baseline torque output and basic research on how each additional performance component has affected engine torque will help you figure out the estimated total torque output. What type of driving is the customer going to be doing? Street driving, street/strip/weekend racer or dedicated race car, serious four-wheel driving, towing a large boat or caravan?
Now that you know the basics, you can recommend the right clutch-type:

While globally, motorsport was almost paused entirely in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Exedy has ramped up their motorsport program in 2021.
“2021 signals our largest investment in motorsport for many years,” Mark explained. “Following what was a tough year for motorsport competitors in 2020, we made the conscious decision to increase our investment across several different categories to improve the health of Australian motorsport and help get it back on its feet.”
This year, EXEDY supports five drivers in five different categories, from rally to circuit racing and drifting.
“Our range of clutches covers a wide variety of applications, and our motorsport program in 2021 is designed to highlight this diversity,” Mark said.

“Max is a great young driver with huge potential, and we’re excited to be riding with him as he transitions from the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge to the bullrings of the highly competitive Speedway championship this year,” Mark described. “It will be a massive change for Max switching from his Porsche GT3 to the brute force of a V8 powered sprint car, but we’re confident he’ll have is right foot buried in the floor as he drives the Exedy winged warrior to the front of the pack.”
When he’s not out on the track battling against some of Australia’s most talented drivers, Max is on the tools as a fully qualified mechanic.
“Mechanics are our primary target market, and the thing we respect most about our relationship with is that he’s not only a seriously fast steerer, but he also knows what a car needs to make it a winner,” Mark added.
In addition to Max, EXEDY has added several potential future champions to their driver roster in 2021. These include Sean Evans, competing in the Hot Hatch Australia Cup in his speedy Honda Jazz, Adrian Stratford, contesting the Victorian Rally Championship in his extremely fast Ford Focus, drifter Matt Murphy and the CK Motorsport Mustang.
“It’s going to be a massive year for all our EXEDY drivers, and we can’t wait to see how they fare in the respective championships,” said Mark.
“We’re confident that they’ll exceed our expectations and pick up a bit of silverware along the way,” he added.
