Ever done this to get an Oil Filter off?

Do you remember?

Remember back when you could change an oil filter without even putting the car on the hoist?

Remember when you could actually see where the oil filter lives without poking around with a leadlight for 5 minutes?

Well, the good old days are gone!

Doing an oil change these days (especially on the boxer engine below) reminds me more of that kids game 'Operation'; but instead of a buzzer going off you get a nice little burn that you keep scraping on things for a week.....and people wonder why we hate engineers?

What do you use to protect your arms doing filter changes?

A rag? Gloves and a fibreglass sleeve? ...or do you rely on a glass of HTFU cement and quick reflexes?

What about when they're tight?

It's not always easy to get a filter wrench in there and the adjustable end-on jaw filter tools rarely grab properly. God forbid a customer see's you belting a screwdriver through an oil filter like some backyarder :S

The answer?

RST200...Boom!

But, how is a dirt bike going to help me remove oil filters you ask?

Although it sounds like a quick little two stroke, the RST200 is Ryco's new oil filter tool kit that covers the ENTIRE range of Ryco filters, making removal and installation of difficult to reach oil filters a breeze!

What's in the box?

The RST200 comes with 8 filter cups, an adjustable removal tool and a hex wrench all packaged up nicely in a blow moulded case so nothing goes missing...at least until the apprentice drops them into the oil drain tray.

How do they work?

Well since you're a member of Mechanic.com.au, you probably know how filter cups work, but check out what makes the RST200 different to the generic kits. A video paints a thousand words.....or something like that...

Pretty nifty right?
