The first three new modules are designed to assist drivers discover more about their diesel vehicle, these new modules help to unravel some of the myths souring the role the Diesel Particulate Filter plays in a vehicles operation. The fourth module is a further technical module for mechanics and resellers to further expand their knowledge about DPF’s.

“The number of vehicles fitted with Diesel Particulate Filters in Australia is growing fast. As a result, mechanical workshops and automotive service centres are reporting an increase in the number of customers presenting with DPF Warning lights on the dash,” said Pablo Ruiz, Ryco Group Product Manager.

Covering a range of new topics including Diesel Car Care Tips, What is a Diesel Particulate, Are you faced with replacing your DPF and Best Principles of DPF Handling, the RYCO DPF online training resource is an extremely valuable reference tool for both automotive professionals and drivers alike.

“As a result of the increasing popularity of diesel power vehicles in Australia, DPF maintenance and replacement is certainly a hot topic,” “To help address some of these questions our DPF technical training series provides critical information including why a new DPF is the best option when replacement is recommended.”

For drivers the DPF is not usually a filter they are aware of when they purchase a diesel vehicle. It is becoming more important to arm vehicle owners with the knowledge about DPF filter operation and for mechanics to accurately diagnose DPF faults and take the appropriate action before recommending a DPF replacement.

“Stop, start city driving is to DPF’s what Kryptonite is to Superman,” Pablo said. “The issue is that in these driving conditions, the DPF may never reach that critical temperature to regenerate … and as a result, the DPF blocks up faster bringing on the warning light earlier and at worst case a no start situation.”

The DPF self-cleanse during a process is called “regeneration” whereby the ECU will add in extra fuel to generate temperatures inside the DPF to 600°C (and higher) in order to burn particulates into ash which is then expelled through the exhaust.

The new additions to RYCO’s DPF online training resource covers important information
including tips for owners to help DPF regeneration.
