The automotive aftermarket is a huge beast and on an almost daily basis you hear of ground-breaking products that are set to change a segment. Truth is, there are a lot of great products out there, but not all of them live up to expectation nor the launch hype.
Sometimes, as car technology nerds, we rightly get excited when an innovative brand introduces something that, once again, raises the bar. This we have come to expect from Ryco Filters.
If there’s a product on the market that is proven to protect vehicle occupants better than anything else, you’ve got to give it a go, don’t you? That’s why, when you service your next vehicle, you need to consider the Ryco Filters MicroShield range.
Firstly, for those of you who are not aware, Ryco Filters offers some of the best cabin filters in the market.
The thing about Ryco is that not only is it Australia’s most popular filter brand, it’s an Australian owned company. Everything it does is thoroughly tested at its dedicated filtration laboratory - the only one in Australasia - and its products offer genuine performance, excelling in three critical filtration areas: efficiency, life and flow, so you know you are on to a good thing.
Getting back to the Ryco MicroShield, what sets it apart from its competition is its N99 medical grade media and its anti-viral and anti-bacterial attributes. So, what looks like a standard cabin air filter is actually packed with impressive technology.
The most important point to note is that the N99 upgraded Ryco MicroShield is the most efficient and best cabin filter in the (world?) Australasian market, and a must-fit product for the car that you are servicing.
Let’s explain the N99 media. In the medical industry there are several different classifications for respiratory masks. Most of us have had experience with face masks over the past 12 months. We know that some are kind of useless, while others protect us better than anything else. The N refers to the mask’s efficiency at 0.3 microns. N99 media must be at least 99 per cent efficient at this super-fine particle size. Interestingly the standard medical mask is rated N95.
This raises the question surrounding microns, and what 0.3 microns means. First up, one micron is one thousandths of a millimetre.
What nasties you might ask? Viral and bacterial contaminants, mould, mites, pollen, dust, odours, exhaust gasses, smog and even wood smoke, to name a few. So it has a critical function.
The N99 upgraded Ryco Microshield has other layers that filter out contaminants. Anti-viral and anti-bacterial layers, with natural polyphenol extracts, help prevent viruses, allergens and bacteria, from entering the cabin. The biocompatible yellow coating is non-toxic and designed to inhibit and destroy influenza A virus, as well as H1N1/H3N2 flu types, bacteria and other allergens.
There is also a carbon layer, which removes unwanted odours by acting as an absorbent. It traps the odour inside the activated carbon and retains it, preventing it from entering the cabin.
Further, there’s the third layer. This is the medical grade, melt-blown, electrostatically charged 0.3 micron layer. We’ve already touched on this when discussing the N99 efficiency rating, and melt-blowing is a non-woven manufacturing process that creates finer fibres for greater filtration efficiency, but the technical beauty of this layer lies in the words ‘electrostatic attraction’, which attracts micro contaminants and, again, prevents them from flowing through into your car.
As you can see, a lot of thought and innovation has gone into Ryco’s upgraded N99 MicroShield cabin air filter. While you are unlikely to need to explain this to your customers, its undoubtedly clever.
“The upgraded Ryco MicroShield range of cabin filters are made from N99 medical grade media which provides both anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties,” Ryco Filters general manager of engineering and innovation, Alastair Hampton said.
“The MicroShield range of Cabin Filters from Ryco are 99.7% efficient at 0.3 micons and tested and compliant to ISO11155-2:2009 standards.
“Cabin filters are a relatively new innovation in passenger cars and many vehicle owners aren’t even aware their vehicles are fitted with one. This can lead to these filters not being replaced as regularly as they should.
“In a time that the health and safety of many people has become so important, replacing an existing cabin filter with the best available on the market is a reasonably small investment to make.”
Ryco’s N99 upgraded MicroShield Cabin Filters are available in 29 part numbers, which cover hundreds of popular vehicle models.
Key part numbers include RCA164M for Toyota Aurion, Camry, Kluger, Prius, RAV4 and RCA182M for Isuzu D Max. More part numbers will be progressively available in the near future.
The upgraded versions of MicroShield Cabin Filters will be denoted with an “M” on packaging as opposed to “MS”.
