In what is an increasingly popular bolt-on upgrade for diesel 4WD owners, the fitting of a Catchcan is well known to prevent oil and soot contamination entering a clean air intake system leading to a more efficient engine. What is not so widely known is that a Catchcan is great for high performance petrol engines as well as turbo boosted vehicles fuelled by either petrol or diesel as it offers high levels of protection for turbo chargers, prevents oil build up in intercoolers and generally keeps engine components much cleaner.
More technically speaking, installing a Catchcan to petrol (performance and standard) vehicles prevents oil vapour going into air intake which can lower the effective octane and potentially cause pre ignition. This is amplified in direct injection engines where oil build up on intake ports and valves can lead to power loss or in extreme cases, pre-ignition from built up carbon dislodging and entering the combustion chamber.
Any vehicle owner that is serious about the efficiency of their engine, whether that be for increased performance and fuel economy or long-term reliability, a Ryco RCC351 Catchcan should be right at the top of priority upgrades.
One further development in the RCC351 Catchcan is that it is not only suitable for diesel and petrol vehicles but is also designed for engines with both positive and negative crankcase ventilation.
“To enable fitment to a wider variety of engines, the RCC351 is designed to run with scavenged crankcase systems which is especially important to petrol engines that ventilate the PCV valve behind the throttle”, said General Manager Engineering & Innovation, Alastair Hampton. “What is particularly impressive about our upgraded Ryco RCC351 kit is that it caters to almost anyone who wants to fit a Catchcan regardless if it’s a diesel or petrol engine without any fuss.”
Designed for ease of fitment, the RCC351 features inlet and outlet ports that can be adjusted in several configurations, enabling it to be mounted to almost any vehicle in a variety of locations.
When it comes to the universal mounting system, Ryco’s RCC351 mounting bracket has been developed in Australia for Australian conditions. The bracket is tough, e-coated and comes in two parts to allow the whole unit to be mounted and unmounted quickly, providing for easy inspection and servicing from awkward locations. Speaking of servicing, a tap has been incorporated into the sump of the filter to allow for easy draining.
Additionally, for the 4WD owner that wants both a pre-fuel filter (fuel water separator) fitted along with a RCC351 Catchcan, Ryco have an expanding range of vehicle specific fitting kits (RVSK) with engine bay specific fitting brackets, moulded hose and accessories to make this task quicker and easier. Full listings are available on the Ryco website catalogue search.
Mechanics are extolling their ease and convenience. “The new Ryco RVSK series are the quickest, easiest and most professional fuel filter and catch can combination set up on the market. We highly recommend anyone thinking of using a catch can and/or a prefilter should pick up a kit for their or their customer’s vehicle. The piece of mind given to us and our customers, whose vehicles we have fitted these systems to, is unmatched. Between the form fitted hoses, custom bracketry and clear instructions any gearhead should not have a problem getting these fitted with the most basic tools. Trying to compare the Ryco kits to other brands on the markets is almost impossible as Ryco are in a league of their own.” Nathan Roberts, Ultra Lube Mechanical Workshop, Midland WA.
The RCC351 upgraded Catchcan supersedes the RCC350 version which was suitable for diesel vehicles only. The new range includes: RCC351 Ryco Crankcase Filter Assembly supplied with RCC351 assembly with RCC151F element and universal mounting bracket. RCC351K Universal Crankcase Filter Kit with RCC351 assembly with RCC151F element, hose reducer, drain hose, drain hose clamp, hose clamps, mounting bracket, zip ties, instruction sheet, flange nuts and washers and service sticker. The RCC351K kit is ideal for someone installing just the Catchcan and requires installation accessories. RCC151F is the replaceable element for RCC351 and RCC351K.
Ryco Catchcan’s and replacement elements are available from all good local Ryco stockist’s.
