Oil change, Lube Service, Minor Service, Major Service, Standard Service?
Every technician and workshop owner we talk to has a different interpretation of these terms as far as what is and isn't included in a service.
As a result, the standard of service being delivered at a given name or pricepoint varies drastically between workshops.
In a perfect world, our customers carry out servicing as per the recommended intervals and requirements of their vehicles log book, but as we all know this isn't a perfect world and situatuons such as the following present issues:
The vehicles milage has exceeded the logbooks provision or recommendations for servicing.
The vehicle does not have a log book or the vehicles servicing history is unknown.
The customer does not want to service their vehicle in accordance with the log book.
The customer has not approved certain log book requirements in previous services.
The customers driving habits mean that the time-based servicing is disporportionate to mileage.
Manufacturer logbook extended service intervals conflict with what technician considers to be best practice.
For these reasons as well as many more there have been calls from within the mechanic.com.au community to identify an agreed standard of servicing.
The purpose of this exercise is to collect feedback and input from the community to further explore the merits of standardising servicing.
Depending on the outcome of this exercise, a suite of resources may be made available to the community to assist with vehicle servicing.
